Since the inception of Community Woodlands by a few committed people in Scotland, the movement, if we can call it that, has grown to over 400 community owned and managed woodlands throughout Scotland. There is a tremendous gathering of ideas, projects, plantings and people out there.
One of most active of these groups is the Community Woodland Association. This is an amazing bunch of people scattered throughout Scotland. All are committed to the care and management of our local woodlands and forests. Have a look at their website and see what is going on in your neck of the woods. www.community-woods.org.uk
Look out for Albanach Community Goods - from flooring to foodstuffs, from willow work to wine. It all out here being grown, cared for and made in Scotland. As organic and as locally grown and produced as you can get.
Support local woodland product suppliers. One organisation making hardwood products from their own woodlands is Borders Forest Trust. They produce a range of beautiful and functional kitchen and lifestyle products. www.bordersforesttrust.org
